Something to remember next time you want to argue with God…

15 Dec

I was thinking a little today about what the Bible says about God.

How smart He is.

Let’s start with fact he knows how many hairs are on everybody’s heads.  I saw somewhere that the average amount of hair on a person’s head is around 140 thousand.  That’s a lot of hair to keep track of.

If he knows how many hairs everybody has, I am assuming he knows their names. According to one person’s estimation, 96,100,000,000 people have lived on the earthThat is a lot of names. If I could remember 1000 people’s names that I just met I probably would land a spot on Oprah. Plus, what is 96,100,000,000 multiplied by 140,000? I start to get lost just thinking about the numbers.

Besides that, he knows every single word that people have spoken. If it is true that we speak about 6 to 8000 words every day, we’re talking 2,190,000 words a year.  If there is say 5 or 6 billion people on the planet, that’s something like 10,950,000,000,000,000 words God hears and remembers completely every year.  And it’s not like he just remembers them for a year, he remembers them forever which means we could ask Him what an individual in Africa spoke on September 13th at 3:33 p.m. four thousand years ago and He’d get it exactly right.

On top of all that he knows thought every single person has had throughout every single second of their life.  I have no clue as to the average amounts of thoughts a person has every day, I don’t even know if you could measure that.  I assume most of us think more than we talk.  (Though for some that might be questionable.)  But say we think 10 times more every day than we talk, 60000 thoughts for 5 or 6 billion people every day, what’s that, 360,000,000,000,000,000,000 thoughts he remembers every day.  131,400,000,000,000,000,000,000 thoughts a year.  And it’s not just that he remembers them.  He understands them.

I just think if we really believe this is the kind of “mind” the God we’re dealing with really has, maybe we should be a little slower to act like we know better than Him about how to run things in this world.

His thoughts are truly higher than ours.

Of all the things God knows, this one thing is most precious:

“…the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations…(2 Pet 2:9)
