I had a gospel moment the other day.
I was talking with someone who had come to fix our electric fence. I noticed he had a “Shout to the Lord” songsheet and a Bible in his truck. He began to tell me about how God had converted and changed him.
It was thrilling because he lives in a culture that is pretty dark spiritually. Like to the point where a doctor in our church was talking to the son of a father who had AIDS, the father was there, and she was telling the son he needed to stay committed to one woman and the father just laughed and laughed and laughed.
And yet, you know you speak with someone like this and you see the gospel can change people. He didn’t grow up in a Christian home, he is actually the only Christian out of nine children, and still he told me of his love for Jesus Christ and along with that, his desire to be pure, to stick with one woman, to honor God in every area of life.
It reminds me of Colossians 1:3ff where Paul is speaking to the Colossians and reminding them of the power of the gospel in their lives, “We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel, which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you…”
Don’t let anyone ever minimize the power of God to transform lives – that’s the way they are, oh they can never change – that is nonsense! God can completely change people and He does completely change people through this message about Jesus Christ!
