On knowing and “mercy ministry”

One of the great obstacles to being of real help to others is our failure to know and understand the people we are seeking to help. I have often wondered in counseling whether I am counseling the real person in front of me or a pretend person they are presenting to me. I may be offering great counsel to the pretend person (or maybe not!) but if I am not actually talking to the real person that counsel is not going to be of much benefit. There are many different factors that keep us from really knowing and understanding other … Continue reading On knowing and “mercy ministry”

Macks in Africa: The website

I know, I know, I am always changing. But I’ve been trying to figure out a way that I can make a web-site to keep people up to date with what is going on with our lives and with Africa. Trying is the key word because I know next to nothing about making a web-site. Enter Mac. I just bought my first Apple computer this past week, a Macbook and I’m telling you this: I am not looking back. Wow. Anyway, this is what I’ve come up with so far with the web-site. (I added more since yesterday) In the … Continue reading Macks in Africa: The website

Prayer Update…

Latest update from my sister… “Thanks to all of you for praying for my dad. He had an angiogram late this afternoon that showed that there was no blockage in his arteries. He will be released from the hospital tomorrow. What an answer to prayer! The doctor says he has mild cardiac artery disease (or something like that) which they will treat by changing his medication and making some lifestyle changes. We are very thankful for your prayers and the many notes we have received expressing your care and concern for us. We head for the Drakensburg Mountains on Saturday … Continue reading Prayer Update…

For prayer…

I received this note from my sister in Africa today. “Just a quick note to let you know what is happening. Dad sent a note earlier mentioning that he was having chest pains. I convinced him this afternoon that that was probably something he should get checked out. They have run a few preliminary tests and it seems there has been damage to his heart. So, they are admitting him tonight to the hospital for further tests to see what damage has been done to his heart. I’m headed up there now to be with mom.” If you think of … Continue reading For prayer…

ANYONE INTERESTED??

I once heard of a person who used the internet to trade a red paper clip up for a house. We are willing to trade much more to get to Africa. We are leaving for Africa in several months and we would like to sell much of what we have to get there. I don’t think I can get rid of my books or old photographs, we’ll keep most of our children’s toys, we’ll need our clothes, and I am guessing you don’t want our old toothbrushes or anything like that, but everything else, I can’t think of anything that we wouldn’t … Continue reading ANYONE INTERESTED??

Update

Dear friends, I hope you are doing well in the Lord, growing in your understanding of His love and grace. I thought I might give you a brief update on what God’s doing in our lives.  As you may know, my wife and I are looking to move to South Africa to serve the Lord as missionaries through Grace Ministries International. We are pretty excited about the opportunity God’s giving us.  For one, we’ll be able to serve in the local church as a pastor at Grace Fellowship Church Pretoria.  Also, we have been asked to teach at Grace School … Continue reading Update

Update

I sometimes seriously can not believe how good God is. For the longest time, I’ve known I wanted to make real sacrifices to help the poor, in particular to get involved in a effort to serve orphans in Africa.  But I had no idea how to do that.  I knew that I wanted it to be part of a local church, I knew that I didn’t want it to be my thing, I knew I wanted to be part of a team, and I knew that I wanted it to be family based, but as far as details, as far as … Continue reading Update
